Anton Gerner Furniture Pty Ltd was
founded by Anton Gerner, a self employed furniture designer and
maker, working from East Hawthorn in Melbourne, Australia.
Most of Antons work is a mixture of private one
off commissions, architectural fit outs, batch production and
exhibition work. One off pieces and shop samples are now also stocked
by a number of shops. Over the past few years a number of batch
production items have also been designed and developed to be wholesaled
directly to Architects, Interior Designers and retail shops.
Although often using highly figured veneers,
Anton prefers to work in solid timber, both Australian and imported.
Uncompromising high quality construction and attention to detail is
achieved using traditional hand tools, techniques of construction and
finish.
Anton Gerner's design philosophy is
contemporary with inspiration drawn from American Shaker furniture and
the Biedermeier and Art Deco periods. Clean lines and strong shapes are
emphasised and fine details featured. Contrasting timbers and inlay
details are a strong design feature.
Anton Gerner has had regular publicity
through many national newspapers, magazines, trade journals and has
even appeared on a spot about tools on "Sale Of The Century" on
television. Several major features have helped gain valuable exposure
which has led to many major commissions in the domestic and commercial
markets. In 1996 Anton Gerner was also featured on the front
cover of Australian Wood Review.
Anton Gerner's one-off exhibition pieces
have gained many awards in the 17 years he
has been exhibiting since 1989.
Anton Gerner is also a regular
contributor to Australian Wood
Review magazine and has been a committee member of the Victorian Woodworkers Association. He
has
also had work accepted for Design Book Six published by Fine Woodworking Magazine.
